LIGHT
A careful look at the word Light from God’s word communicates the very heart and purpose of God at creation to us all.
The word light as used by Paul in Phil 2:15 is phoster in Greek and it refers to brilliancy or an illuminator.
The word light was used 237 times in the Bible
That ye may be blameless and harmless and sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation among whom ye shine as light in the world.
Philipians 2:15
Definition of Light
Light is light.
Simply put light is the opposite of darkness.
Source of True Light
God is the source of true light. To get the light that will shine brighter and brighter, it needs to come from God. For instance the Sun is the source of light for the earth in the daytime and the Moon is the source of light in the night, the Moon gets it’s radiance directly from the Sun to reflect at night whereas other Stars and Galaxies that are seen at night get the light they reflect from the Moon.
That established,
The Sun lights the earth during the day, the Moon lights the earth at night with the light it recieved from the Sun and the stars shine at night with the light recieved from the moon.
Every person that carries light, gets it from God and they are able to reflect and radiate the light they have recieved from Him to their World. We are to shine in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among those of the night as Light.
Light up Your World.
The bible says we are the children of light and the children of the day. We are not of night we are not of darkness
Who is the Light in Darkness?
Christ Jesus is the true light, in Phil 2:6-11. Paul spoke about Christ Jesus who was made in the likeness of man, died and was exalted (raised from the dead).
This is the light of the glorious Gospel. Christ Jesus is the light.
Luke 2:32 says A light to lighten the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Isreal.
John 8:12 says Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus gives light,
only if you can follow Him.
Only if you can live in Him
Only if you can trust Him enough
Only if you can let Him handle that business of yours, your career, your profession, your marital life.
Who are the children of light?
Everyone that believes in Jesus Christ, You and I inclusive are the Light to illuminate our world.
Though we may have been in darkness before i.e before our encounter with Christ. Now that we are now in Christ and He lives in us, we now carry Light.
Our place of residence is no longer in darkness but in the light. In Light we live, in light we move and in light we have our being.
With this, our lives showcase light everywhere we go from that moment forward. For God is at work in us, God shines through us and we are the light that shine in the world
We are the light,
And of what use is a light that does not know it is light.
Let me give us a little scenario. We all know a light bulb.
A bulb is supposed to give light, but if there is no power of electricity either electricity from the grid or sourced from generating set, the bulb is useless because it can’t do the work it was made for, this therefore means it is not important by that time it was needed to shine, it did not meet the purpose for which it was created.
I will bring this example to the life of everyone, from God’s commandment we all are to be a light. If Christ is not in you there is no way you can be a light, there is no way you can illuminate lifes around you, because you don’t know the light which is Jesus Christ.
For you not to be a useless vessel, you need to find your ground in Christ and stay connected to Him because in Him alone can exceedingly huge success be found.
If you want to be a light let Christ be the author of everything you do, make Him to be the first and you will see greater things.
The word of God says the world is waiting for the manifestation of sons of God.
You can only manifest when you have the light in you,
How to become Children of light?
By faith we receive the light and eternal life 1 John 5:9-13,20, Col 1:12-15. We become children of light through faith in Christ Jesus. We were once in darkness and walk as Gentiles but now children of light.
Every one was once in darkness because of sin and the entrance of the Light into our lives translated us from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light.
Some common associations of Light
1. Light and Purpose
There is a big connection between Light and Purpose. Each human existence on earth is based on an exact and definite purpose attached to their existence.
No Human being was created a mistake.
No human came as an after thought, each person’s appearance on the earth pleased and suited God’s grand agenda that’s why He gave you the opportunity to be born at this time and in this age.
You matter in the Grand scheme of God's Calendar.
It is good to know that there was an original design in the heart of the Designer-GOD when he fashioned you in His own image.
With these design came the purpose, ie
- what you are to accomplish,
- when you are to accomplish it,
- how you are to accomplish,
- where you are to accomplish and
- The time frame to accomplish your purpose .
No human being is eternal or immortal, therefore time has been allotted to each and everyone to fulfill purpose on earth.
Live purposefully
Because
When the use of a thing is unknown, abuse is inevitable
For instance
The purpose of salt is to sweeten the environment
The purpose of a rain is to water the earth so that there will be seed to the sower and bread for the eater.
The purpose of sun is to give light by day
The purpose of moon is to give light at night
The purpose of a pen is to write
Therefore the purpose of light is to bring illumination.
Everyone has a purpose to fulfil and no one is to exist oblivious of that Purpose.
The purpose of God for creating You as a person on earth is to walk in Light by fulfilling the destiny He designed for You at creation .
A person that has found purpose and follows the path of purpose definitely fulfills Destiny.
2. Light and direction
Light stands to give direction. As there are no two sides to the divide, a person walking in the opposite direction of light is walking in darkness.
“A light” oblivious to the truth that it is Light will live common and casual without radiating the brilliance it is supposed to impact the world with.
God in creation never made a mistake, everyone created is created to fulfil a particular purpose as light is created to lighten the environment.
Light gives direction
Light shows the way, with light a clear path is known.
3. Light and Dominion
We can see that been on earth is not by mistake. it is to illuminate and shine forth in all areas.
God has also given us power, strength and authority to dominate and show forth His light resident in us to people around. This light we emit draw nations to Christ.
The entrance of light naturally causes darkness to back off and disappear. This action enthrones light to be a master of darkness everywhere. Dominion is a package that comes with Light.
Light dominates darkness.
A life that carries light will automatically bear rule. This in essence means that for anyone to walk in dominion he needs to carry tangible light.
To dominate get charged, recharged or Lit upso that you can light up your world.
You can not give what you do not have
What are the practical ways to shine forth as a light in the midst of darkness?
1. Be a life giving and fruit bearing individual.
Keep ensuring the fruits you are bearing are good at all times. Good Fruits includes fruits of Love, Joy, Peace, Gentleness, Long suffering, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance. Every where (home, work, school, office) you find yourself these fruits are to be borne in and out of season..
2. Live righteously and not by been religious.
A righteous life is lived for the audience of one which is God (by loving what he loves and abhorring what he abhors) while a religious life is lived based on the philosophy, rules and dictate of men and the opinion of others or by self- righteousness.
Be fruitful in every good works
Be righteous shun hypocrisy
How can you be a light in the night?
- Repent
- Surrender your life to Christ
- Crucify all the work of flesh
- Posse the fruit of the spirit
- Stay in God
- Read His word and let His word reflect in your life
In Conclusion
As believers we are God’s glory and children we are the luminary of His purpose and purpose in Christ (Eph1:4-6).
We reign in life through Him and we are to hold fast the word of life as one who has received life of light in this world.
We are not of the night nor of darkness but of God.
Always remember you are a light, make a good example by illuminating the world with your light.
Now is the time to carry your candle and run towards the dark places so that people in darkness can see your Great Light and Glorify God because of you.
Go light your world bringing illumination, solution to problems and answers to difficult questions starting from your street, community, town, state, nation and the world at large.
Remember that
God is at work in you, God shines through you and you are the light that shine in the world
May your generation call you Blessed and Great.

- Ensure your Light does not burnout or turn to darkness.
